Protect you Passwords
- During a recent password audit by a company, it was found that an employee was using the following password:
- "MickeyMinniePlutoHueyLouieDeweyDonaldGoofySacramento"
- When asked why they used such a long password, the response was
- "It has to be at least 8 characters and include at least one capital."
- Do not share ID's, account information, log-in credentials or passwords
- Use hard to guess and easy to remember passwords. Use upper case, lower case, special characters and numbers in your password. To create a password you can use a phrase i.e. Between a Rock and a Hard Place. Take the first two letters of each word and substitute vowels with;
a = @ or 4
e = 3
i = 1
o =0 (zero)
- So the phrase Between a Rock and a Hard Place, becomes something like B3aR0anaH@Pl^34. I just added the ^34 to make it a little more secure.
- Some bad examples of passwords are Winter2017, Spring2017, Summer2017, Fall2017 and really any single word and number.
Protect your computer and mobile devices
- Do not open attachments or click on links in an email unless you are expecting them. Even if you recognize the sender, the email address could have been spoofed or compromised.
- Do not download from unfamiliar file sharing sites.
